Magic: 64 vs. Not A Chance: 45
Balanced scoring helped the Magic run away with this one. They had 6 players score, and 4 of those players scored in double digits. The Magic were led by Amir Hill, who recorded a double double with his game high 17 points and 17 rebounds. Rebounding came to be a huge factor in the game as the Magic were able to get second chance points that killed any attempt at a comeback.
Antioch 1 vs. Metro Church 0
Old School: 53 vs. Runnin’ & Gunnin’: 41
Old School was able to take control of this game early and never let go. Rebounding was a big factor in this game, as Old School was able to out rebound Runnin’ & Gunnin’ 44 to 29. Mike Soukup posted his first double double this season with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Runnin’ & Gunnin’ couldn’t get it going on the offensive end, as the pressure by Old School proved too much on this night!
Tar Heels: 40 vs. Money Train: 58
This week Money Train had a full team and took advantage of it! Ari Betancourt continued his hot shooting as he scored 15 points on 5 3 pointers, he was also the leading scorer in the game. Wilbur “Mr. Reliable” Mathurin gave his typical game as he recorded 11 points and 7 rebounds. The shooting by Money Train proved to be the difference maker as it seemed every shot they took they made.
Cobras: 56 vs. Flight 612: 60
The two teams made sure that our last game of the night ended in a bit of a dramatic way. The game saw Flight 612 jump out to a big lead early, thanks to the shooting of James Hunt, who ended the game with 21. James seemed to extend his range with every trip up the court. However, the big lead wouldn’t last long as Cobras made a roaring comeback, aided by Ben Bertot, who with a game high 24 points would not go out without a fight. Ben also got his second double double of the season with his 11 rebounds. In the end there just wasn’t enough time for the Cobras to make their improbable comeback.
Not A Chance: 53 vs. AND1: 15
Not A Chance came out very strong to start the game, and AND1 found themselves in a hole too deep. Alex Cobb gave a strong performance and was the leading scorer in the game with 17. Matthew Roberts also contributed a double double for Not A Chance his debut. Kyle Little did what he could for AND1 with his 7 points and 9 rebounds, but it wasn’t his teams night.
Money Train: 57 vs. Cobras: 62
In our first game of 2012, Cobras came away with a hard-fought W. Money Train played the entire first half with 4 players, and shortly into the second half their fifth player showed up. Despite playing a man down, Money Train kept the game close with Ari Betancourt scoring 25 points and hitting six 3 pointers. In the end Ben Bertot and Kyle Hughes were able to fend off the comeback with their combined 42 points and 24 rebounds, as both recorded a double double. Corbin also found himself with a double double in 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Metro Church: 52 vs. Old School: 64
This was the Powell brother show, as Wesley 23 points 10 rebounds and Jason 26 points 10 rebounds dominated the game. In their first game they needed no time to warm up and proved they are going to hard to stop this season. Metro Church made several runs, but anytime they were able to get within striking distance, the Powell brothers ended it. Metro Church showed a balance attack as they had 3 players in double figures, with Jake Polk scoring 10, Caleb Polk 16 and Brandyn Meuse adding 14.
Runnin’ & Gunnin’: 53 vs. Tar Heels: 48
Jeff Moreira lived up to his team name that night as he busted out with 31 points. He was Runnin’ & Gunnin’ and nobody on the court could stop him, it was a night to be remembered. Runnin’ & Gunnin’ also had a great inside presence as Joe Washaby hauled in 10 rebounds, and Justin Rowe grabbed 15. Wilbur Mathurin, or as I like to call him Mr. Reliable, didn’t disappoint as he recorded his first double double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. It was a closely contested game, but Jeff would not be denied the win.
Flight 612: 72 vs. Antioch: 27
In their first game of the season Flight 612 came out and flying. They were led in scoring by James Hunt with 16, but 3 other players finished in double digits. Flight 612 was also dishing out the basketball well as they finished the game with 11 assists. Flight 612 began the game on an incredible run, and Antioch was unable to answer. Antioch was led by Mike Davis who had 6 points and 4 rebounds.
Check them out! Congratulations to the week one stat leaders!
