Congratulations to Cliff Johnson for winning the Chick-Fil-A Highlight of the Week! It is a simple layup but he dribbled past all 5 of Money Train’s defenders in route to a coast to coast cone weave.
Inside out 78
War Eagles 58
Inside Out is back with a vengeance after their Fall 2012 campaign to a championship with a 20-point victory over the War Eagles. The leading scorer for Thursdays game was Matt Slack, but it was not enough to overcome Inside Out’s four players with 13-points or more. While the War Eagles were down on players, it still appears that Inside Out is the real deal!
Playground Legends 89
Wiley Coyotes 84
The Playground Legends put up a solid performance and are showing no sign of slowing down as they have 2 players in the top five for rebounding in Alex Keeler and Chris Smith and two solid scorers who put up a combined 57-points in Thursday nights victory over the Coyotes. While the Playground legends won, the Wiley Coyotes are beginning to show us their offensive firepower as they had four players score double digits in their 84-point effort.
One Body A 62
Christ Church Orlando nearly doubled the points of One Body A in the first 10 minutes of the game, but then One Body A ran away with this one by full court pressing Christ Church of Orlando whole the rest of the game. One Body A’s captain, Mike Davis, fell one rebound and one assist shy of a triple double. Look for One Body A to continue to play suffocating defense and control the game flow with the full court press and methodical approach on the offensive end of the court.
Money Train 59
One Body B 56
One Body B jumped out to a huge lead in this one, but like many other teams this week, Money Train woke up to played lock down defense and scored the ball at will throughout the second half. Had it not been for Cliff Johnson and Stephon Jenkins three-point shooting, otherwise the game would have been far out of hand. We’ll be looking forward to another matchup later in the season to see if One Body B will settle the score.
LA Legends 94
The Cobras put up a solid 82 points, but their efforts fell short once the clock hit zero as the LA Legends scored a league high 94 points in their week 2 game. Most of this is thanks to Jose Rivera who is the Legends leading scorer and shooting percentage leader on 18 for 28 shooting. Luckily for the Cobras, there will surely be more wins in their future if they continue to post 80+.
Old School 67
After the first ten minutes of this game it appeared as though TCR was going to run away with this one, but Old School began playing lock down defense while also taking care of business on the offensive end of the court. Be excited for later in the season when TCR will attempt to overcome the obstacles they couldn’t in week 2.
Metro Church 61
Daniel Feliciano has been leading Metro in scoring, but more than anything Metro Church plays lock-down defense week in week out, and with the 39-point defensive effort against the Gators, it appears this defensive onslaught is not nearing an end. Hopefully the Gators will improve offensively in future weeks.
1. Money Train 2-0
Money Train proved to be the best team in the league Thursday night after giving One Body B a heartbreaking loss 59-56 to remain undefeated.
2. Old School 2-0
Like Money Train, Old School faced a formidable opponent in week 2, but squeaked out a big comeback victory after having been down by more than double digits early in the first half.
3. One Body A 2-0
Jumping up from number 7 after last week’s victory by forfeit, one Body A played suffocating defense in week 2, which they supplemented with a solid offense. One Body A rounds out the undefeated top 3 on the power rankings
4. TCR 1-1
Despite a 1 point loss in week two, TCR still belongs in the top 5. Don’t expect a losing streak to develop.
5. One Body B 1-1
Like last week, One Body B’s 3 point shooting was lights out. However it was not enough to overcome Money Train’s late comeback victory. Still though, One Body B was in it the whole game and produced another Chick-Fil-A Highlight of the Week.
6. LA Legends 1-1
It doesn’t matter who they played, 94 points scored is 94 points scored.
7. Metro Church 1-1
It’s becoming clear that Metro plays some of the best defense in the league, but they need to keep pressing, as teams 7-10 will all be competitive throughout the year.
8. Playground Legends 1-1
The Playground Legends showed improvement on both the offensive and defensive, plus put up 89 points on the day. Look for the Legends high-powered offense to be their saving grace.
9. Inside Out 1-1
The returning champs returned last Thursday from their Fall 2012 championship campaign after a week 1 forfeit to a decisive victory over the War Eagles who have taken a historic fall in the PR.
10. War Eagles 1-1
Despite a monster dip in the power rankings, I still would not be surprised to see the Eagles secure a playoff spot before week 8, but only time will tell.
11. Cobras 1-1
The Cobras round out the last of the teams with a .500 record after their loss to the Playground Legends. If the Cobras keep rebounding the way they do and improve on defense, there will surely be a playoff spot awaiting them.
12. Gators 0-2
The Gators have definitely improved, but still are not a very deep team.
13. Christ Church of Orlando 0-2
Another tough matchup for CCO, but they showed a lot of fight on Thursday. Look for them to keep pushing through the season.
14. Wiley Coyotes 0-1
Despite being ranked last, the Coyotes can definitely play. The teams this year are simply all very strong.
I wanted to do a devotional but am currently in El Salvador so wifi is not the best. Once I finish posting everything that happened on the trip, I have little to no time to finish men’s league, but I will continue and get the videos and all other content up shortly. I apologize for the wait. Below are a few videos from Christian coaches called “I am Second.” It’s obvious and easy to understand that we are and should be second to God in everything we do, but does your life align with that? If a man truly has died to himself and is living for Jesus; is this his life to live, or His?
I hope you enjoy the videos!
Thomas Drake of One Body B throws down at the rim for the Chick-Fil-A Highlight of the Week.
Matthew 6:33-Seek firs the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The gospel is both physical and spiritual. Jesus came entered into human history, fully indwelling the physical from birth to death. Therefore, the gospel is both a spiritual and a physical thing. One of the greatest ways in which we, as people who have fallen short of the glory of God, fall short is how we treat our physical bodies; particularly sexually. For more information on the importance of abstinence (abstaining from sex outside of marriage), as A.C. Green was detailing, click on the link below for an article by Tim Keller on sex and the gospel.
